Job Description :

• Provide expert advice
• Identify business opportunities, through knowledge of the operating infrastructure and client relationships; and / or,
• Are responsible for provision of process engineering and project management expertise to the strategic definition and, subsequently, execution of studies / projects to meet the technical and commercial expectations of Pφyry and the delivery of projects to the satisfaction of its clients.  Such studies/Projects typically cover the entire project life cycle from field development study, through design, to operational support and troubleshooting. 

This responsibility includes :

• Development and maintenance of good working relationships with key customers and suppliers;
• Identification of potential business opportunities through industry knowledge and contacts and / or lead role in their development;
• Oversight of detailed design and engineering packages in accordance with contract requirements and good engineering practices;
• The organisation, management, assignment and control of staff working on a project, ensuring through direction and guidance of personnel that the engineering work is progressed efficiently, to maintain schedule without compromising on quality;
Individual calculation effort, preparation of Basis of Design documents (BOD’s) front-end studies. 

The role is varied, requiring flexibility, both in the type of assigned work tasks, and location, as short assignments offshore or to overseas locations are anticipated.

There is potential for long term assignments to other Pφyry locations in the oil and gas, or other business areas, in the future, dependant upon candidate’s career aspirations.

Responsibilities :

Consultant Process Engineers will be expected to :

• Take a lead role in business development, either through consolidation of existing or establishment of new client relationships;
• Liaise with clients to establish scopes of work and prepare proposals for projects;
• Lead process and multi-discipline study teams in the execution of upstream oil and gas projects ranging from conceptual studies for greenfield developments to brownfield modifications of existing on/offshore oil and gas production facilities;
• Provide technical direction and supervision of junior engineers in preparation of project deliverables;
• Monitor project quality, manhour and costs to ensure effective delivery of individual projects;
• Provide quality assurance of calculations prepared by team to Pφyry Quality Management System;
• Serve as the Focal Point for assigned projects, managing the contact with the client and ensuring effective communication between all stakeholders;
• Supervise and provide input to building and running simulation models;
• Provide discipline input to estimates and proposals, and subsequent production of conceptual design deliverables within agreed budget and schedule constraints;
• Carry out screening studies and developing BOD’s in support of potential engineering projects;
• Carry out process simulations and optimization studies for selected projects and prepare Process Flow Schemes with mass balances and equipment sizes;
• Provide detailed process engineering input during all design phases as required by the client, including interpretation of industry standards;
• Review any process design work carried out by third parties (detailed design contractors, vendors), and to participate in HAZOPs as required;
• Internal resourcing, staff management, project scheduling and reporting;
• Actively train and encourage the development of junior staff to fulfill process and systems engineering roles;
• Liaise with the other disciplines, client's engineering and production personnel to ensure consistent basis for all input parameters;
• Contribution as required to bids, proposals, client presentations and marketing activity.

The successful candidate will have a Degree in Chemical Engineering and professional membership with the Institute of Chemical Engineers or equivalent. You will have a background in the oil and gas industry, downstream refinery experience, or experience in a related industry, and a highly developed knowledge in one or more technical areas, and / or project or operational management.

The role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Ideally, candidates should be able to demonstrate experience / expertise in the following :

• Significant design and operational experience to lead and supervise others;
• Detailed design and operational experience to best in class standard;
• Experience in managing small to medium scale multi-discipline projects and delivery on time and on budget.  Experience in defining the deliverables and managing the approvals at each stage of project development;
• Understanding of HSE/DTi regulations and requirements of the hydrocarbon production industry.  Detailed understanding of industry codes and standards;
• Experience in the development and maintenance of a Safety Case regime;
• Experience in the development of a Permit To Work system or responsibility for Permit to Work system operation; 
• Experience of dealing with the HSE/DTi e.g. incident reporting, flare consent applications, chemical consents;
• Ability to communicate across most disciplines involved in the development process; 
• Good working knowledge of field development technologies available to the industry; 
• Familiarity with the latest developments in technology that influence the efficiency of the exploration and production processes;
• Extensive experience in multi-disciplined development processes.  Understanding of the state of the industry and the trends that are likely to influence the direction taken by the industry in the future;
• Project engineering skills to ensure studies and projects are delivered within agreed budgets and schedules;
• Particular experience in identification and screening of development concepts and FEED;
• Experience in feasibility, concept selection and front end engineering studies;
• Experience in interfacing with operations personnel and engineering disciplines in an operating company environment;
• Some understanding of oil & gas project economics screening practices;
• Knowledge of project execution and regulatory issues;
• Knowledge of various codes and standards such as API 520 / 521, AS, ASME / ANSI as appropriate.
