Cummins KTA38M2 Marine Propulsion Engines

Brand new, zero-hour pair of surplus 2008 Cummins KTA38M2 marine propulsion
engines rated at 1000hp @ 1800rpm, continuous duty rating are for sale.  These
are EPA Tier II emissions rated and come with original factory warranty.  Engines
are bobtail and have deep-sump marine oil pans with SAE#0 bell housings ,
set-up for keel cooling and only on-engine gauge panel package .  

Description
Engines have wet-exhaust manifolds
Turbo-chargers are water-cooled with dual exhaust into 2 into 1 collector pipe
There is no coolant day tank included
Engines  have single crankcase breathers
Lube oil coolers are included .
Lube oil filters and fuel filters are mounted on engines , coolant filters included
are remote mounted

No Racor water-separating fuel filters are included.
IR  air starters are included with ship-loose button for activation
Engines have deep-sump marine oil pans, approx 180gal capacity
Yes  they have Cummins PT fuel pump and VS gov.

No  12v fuel shut-off, manual shut-off valves included
FLOCS system
F/W  and housing are SAE#0
There are no gauges included at all.
Exhaust parts are two expansion joints with two into one transition box
No air cleaners included.

No Sentinel shutdown system. From a safety standpoint where these vessels are
used on rivers with locks, they would install an audible alarm system instead, and then
the captain could determine if it was safe to shutdown an engine.

No marine gear oil cooler, this would typically come with the gears that you would use.
No mufflers included.
No start-up and review included. This would have to be done by local Cummins dealer.

The peak sprint rating is the highest effective output of the engine which can
be delivered for one half hour within six operating hours without mechanical
and thermal overstress.

The overload intermittent rating is the highest effective output of the engine
which can be delivered above the continuous rating of 2 hours, continuous or
with interruptions, within 6 operating hours.

1950 rpm is the allowable maximum rpm for contractors sea trials and post refit
SATS with a clean hull, clean propellers and the ship at standard displacement.
This makes allowance for a 50 rpm drop to 1900 rpm for hull fouling etc.

1900 rpm is the maximum rpm at all other times including four monthly workups
to full power and annual full power trials.

The duration of operation at peak/sprint rating is not to exceed one half hour within
six operation hours.

The power tendency indicators will indicate that the engines are in the overload
condition, i.e, in the red zone, when the engines are operated at intermittent or sprint
ratings.  This overloading is acceptable provided that the duration of such overloading,
as stated above, is not exceeded.

Operating Parameters

1. The operation of these engines below 1000erpm is to be kept to a minimum.
2. When starting from a cold condition, the following parameters are to be met :
a. The fresh water cooling system is to be pre-heated to at least 40°C prior to engine start.
b. Engine speed is not to exceed 1200erpm until both the engine oil and fresh water
cooling systems have attained 60°C.
