The SRS provides rotation without rotating the casing string

The SRS is connected to the casing as a standard shoe; the SRS Tool comes with a fixed helical mandrel attached to a casing joint which connects to the casing string, around which the lower tool body rotates.
The bronze blades are coated with tungsten carbide clusters to increase cutting ability. The whole bit is made of bronze also.
The OD body of the bit is inset with tungsten carbide buttons to minimize the effects of wear on the bit OD.
For an optimum drill out of the SRS tool, the bronze bit and mandrel lock together with a lock off mechanism to prevent bit’s rotation when drilling it out.
A mechanically-aligning eccentric casing guide shoe.
Eccentric Bit design will probe ahead to find the open hole, allowing the string to move past the ledge, washout, or dogleg & continue along the bit path.
This variation is needed when it is not possible to use mud pumps to open the Smart Reamer- as in slotted liners.
A high tensile steel spring is used to open back the tool when the weight is released
Also useful when running multistage packers system such as Packers Plus, where there are concerns of pressure spikes due to fill accumulating in front of a standard casing shoe which can the cause the packers to set prematurely.
The Spring Actuated tool is not PDC drillable due to the steel components and spring.

Apart from new safety regulations, the new moratorium will allow time to examine the spill response capabilities of exploration companies to ensure the minimum possible damage to ecology in the vicinity of the drilling area. New penalty tax laws on oil spills are expected to be introduced in the wake of the offshore drilling moratorium.
The six-month moratorium will also wipe out thousands of jobs and millions of dollars of income from the offshore drilling business.

The global demand for oil and gas decreased in late 2008 and 2009 due to the global economic slowdown. This will result in a corresponding increase in production, especially from the offshore regions. With the global crude oil and natural gas demand not expected to subside and the onshore reserves facing depletion, the offshore crude oil and natural gas production is only expected to increase in the future.
